    I need your advice guys

My system at the moment includes

    Amp - Marantz 7200
CD Player - Marantz CD63 MKII KI
    Turntable - Project Debut II
Speakers - Acoustic Energy Aegis 2 (floorstanders)

Im thinking about upgrading but not sure what to upgrade. I am a student so on a limited budget but I would like to know what you gurus would suggest and why

    Cheers dudes

    Speakers dude.

    You have 2 good sources.

    Your amp is half decent

Improve your speakers, In your shoes I would do the following, get the best second hand - exdem standmount speakers you can, then later on add an active sub to bolster the lower registers.

Your system will then be in place for Amp upgrade & source upgrade. I would budget around £300-400 for your standmount speakers, then add a BKE 200 Sub for £200 Notes, that would be one serious speaker system (not beatable until £1000+ Floorers). Castle Durhams are available ina few places just £4 49 you could do the wholseale changes now.

    Just some thoughts. HTHs.

Cant disagree with CJ there, although Ive seen a few of the old style castle richmonds kicking around at around £130-£140. Decent speaker even without a sub.

CJ, whilst I agree with you, it might be worth telling him what the pitfalls/caveats/problems are in adding a subwoofer. For 95% of us, they simply aren't "plug'n'play" additions to a system ;)

    Thanks for your help guys

The thing is with a me getting a sub is that my amp does not support sub plug in so it would not be suitable.

What are the castle richmonds like? Is there any other floorstanders around £300-£400 you can suggest?

You connect a sub via the high level connection to the speaker binding posts of your amp in tandem with your speaker cables.

£300-400 Floorstanders ? Theres loads dude. But Im a standmount + sub fan so cant really point you in the right direction there, FWIW I would point you away from a set of floorers and towards the standmount+sub option.

DT - I think suggesting a sub in tandem with standmounts are as valid a suggestion as saying floorstanders, at least you can tune and tailor the sound from a sub, you cant do that with floorers. Caveats apply with floorers too but are rarely mentioned.

i always thought connecting the sub up that way degraded the sound quality compared to connecting it striaght to the amp?

I just sold my sub ooops thinking that I would not be able to use it with this system,

What do people think about a pair of Mordaunt Short's MS906 as a worthy upgrade from my Acoustic energy's?

Found some AE Aesprit 309's for £149.50, did these not retail at £600ish quid when they came out?

    Might get them :)

I think I will get the AE 309, just one technical question, will these work with my marantz pm7200?

Or should i get the evo3 floor standers and just pay a bit more?

I'd imagine that the 309's would be fine, they have a high sensitivity 90.5db I think, anyway, it's the same as the Evo 3's.
I have just ordered two pairs of these, great deal at £149.95 a pair, I believe they were £700 when they first came out.
Comparing to Evo 3's I don't which are "better" but I believe they were both being sold at the same time, however the aesprits were AE's midrange speakers, and aegis Evo's budget speakers (with no disregard there at all) so you would guess at the aesprits being better of the two.
Also I have heard that the b-stock items have been received as good as new with no marks on them whatsoever. Hopefully mine will be like that ;)

There is no reason that connecting a sub to the speaker output would cause sound degredation, provided that the sub is DESIGNED to be connected this way (eg REL)
