    Hi,

I've found a source of HiDef material available for download to paly from a PC.

How much of it is legit? Do film companies release their stuff on HiDef or are these just downloads from broadcast material (aka taped of the telly) type stuff.

How Hidef are they? They haven't just upscaled a dvd have they?

I don't want to waste bandwidth downloading rubbish, but I would like to see what HiDef would look like pumped to my plasma.

    Thanks.

what about www.wmvhd.com ? I beleive this is legit (not wanting to get banned here ....) ?

there are some demo clips (a couple of minutes long) which show just how good hd can be.

Some of the stuff on the newsgroups is upscaled DVD I think. Some of the stuff broadcast is upscaled SD material too I believe. The best stuff can be good I believe altough I have never downloaded any myself.

I have 3 microsoft WMV HD discs I got as a gift while at CEDIA in USA in Sept. If you would like to see what HD can be like I'D be happy to post you one. Just PM you address.

You need min 2.4GHz processor with 384Meg of ram for playback at 720P.

Well it is Microsofts own website and they can distribute their content at will, they also give links to purchase the full movies, bless em:)

Bottom line is that the vast majority of video, audio and other media floating around the net via p2p/newsgroups is being distributed without the copyright owners permission. Entirely up to the individual if they download/upload that content and there are many schools of thought for both sides of the argument:)
