Hi Fi in storage

My hi fi has been professionally stored in a warehouse (in Manila) for the last eighteen months or so. Speakers are Snells (E5 fronts, CR5 centre and SR5 rears); clever boxes are DVD32R, AV32R processor and 100x5 power amp.

Any suggestions or advice about re-setting up after such a long period of time in storage ?

The TAGs were all bought in Singapore and I now hear that the local TAG store has closed down, does anybody know if IAG/TAG has presence in China/HK as i would like to consider updates such as progressive scan etc.

Finally, after eighteen months away from my babies I have forgotten the regional coding hack via the remote - can anybody remind me. Thanks.

Hi,

regarding the setting up: just let the stuff get the same temp as your room temp, to avoid moisture. In other words, set it up, but don't turn it on for a few hours.

If you performed the regioncode change once and set it to 0, then you won't have to do it again as long as you didn't do a master reset.

Thanks for the info with regards to resetting up the kit.

For the region coding I used to change the setting depending on the region of the DVD. There was a code that you enter via the remote each time you use a DVD from a new region. With the kit in storage so long I have forgotten the code - the guy in the Singapore TAG showroom told me but that has closed down now.

So can anyone recall the code ?

Also, the DVD player top loadinglid never worked properly and I had to manually slide the top back and forth to open/close. Anybody else ever have this issue ?

The DVD32R's door has been modified and optimised the first few years. However I don't believe there has been any change since 2 years or so. If your unit has the latest version, you can switch between 2 door profiles: A=fast, for older models and B is slower, for latest version. So, how old is your unit?
(I've sent you PM regarding the region code.)

Here it is:

codefree sequence:
1. no disk in the player
2. close the tray if it's open
3. key in 734* (where *is the region)

Notice for memorization that 734 in the keypad is reg(ion), i. e., 7 is R, 3 is E and 4 is G.
I believe that 0 in the region will read all regions.

Have fun.

Your speakers will probably sound naff for a day or two. I stored my Ruark Preludes and the cones must have got a touch damp as they sounded appalling after I got them out. Took a week to come back. Just thought I'd mention it so you don't panic as I did.

Thanks for the info guys. Just got back from four days in Inner Mongolia hence the lack of response fom my end.

Have fun.

Radar Audio in Hong Kong are TMA distributors. Tel +852 2576 0021 for the showroom in Causeway Bay, ask for Patrick (the others are clueless).

Hi Guys,

Just to clarify on the statement that the local TMC dealer in Singapore has closed down - no he hasn't. He moved from Liat Towers into the basement of the Specialist Shopping Centre by Somerset MRT - about 1 year ago.

David is very much alive and well & still dealing in TMC stuffalthough his 'new' shop is much lower status than his original one,

Cheers,
