Any good demo albums for your system ?

You know....when you find you are listening to the hi fi / production / quality of recording rather than the music

Voodoo by D'angelo does it for me

eek I thought that one was horrible Common, have you heard Brown Sugar, it's infinitely better.

For me it would be anything by massive attack

Yeah got both - think Voodoo is much better !

funny old world and all that....

I'm with James45 on this one, 'Brown Sugar' to me is the better of the albums.

Have you guys heard Guru's Jazzmatazz albums? I think they sound great on a decent system. Music's not half bad either.

Hearts and Bones by Paul Simon on vinyl, but you have to get the old one, not a re issue. I have this on QIEX.
Stravinskis Firebird Micheal Hedges Aerial Boundaries.

On CD.........Nevermind, Nirvana Rage against the Machine, self titled Eva Cassidy, Songbird Metallica, Black Album Last issue of the La,s album Nils Lofgrens, Acoustic Live

To name but a few

Hmm.. how about:

moby - play
radiohead - kid a
prodigy - fat of the land
beastie boys - hello nasty
dr dre - the chronic
basement jaxx - remedy
tricky - maxinquaye
leftfield - leftism
outkast - aquemini

they all have great sound quality, and are decent albums in there own right IMO

Incubus- Morning View
Dire straights- money for nothing
Ian Pooley- Since Then
Leftfield- Rhythm and Stealth

Yeah got all 3 - very nice with the first being the best IMHO

Are we talking sound quality or music quality ?

I have several of the albums posted, but would not consider them best for sound reproduction ie Radiohead, Tricky etc.

Vinyl or CD ?

The post was to highlight sound quality, but it is worth bearing in mind some albums suit some systems better than others

Yep, I agree with that. The first Volume is essential listening and features immaculate production and sound quality.

all great examples but I had to take The Chronic back listening to Dre's lyrics left me feeling filthy and this is coming from someone who didn't have a problem with 2LiveCrew!

Sade - 'Lovers rock'

I find Lovers rock a bit bass heavy on my system - but nice detail from the guitars

Joe Satriani's STRANGE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC is nice on CD or multi-channel SACD.

What do you think about this?

I think it's great:)

Lateralus by Tool, especially if you have a HDCD compatible deck

Norah Jones 'Come Away With Me' is a very good album which is very well recorded and sounds awesome.

One dodgy album that I consider to sound better than most is Invincible by Michael Jackson, it's just a pity the musical content isn't marvellous.

How about the following CD's?

Beyond Skin - Nitin Sawhney
Time Bomb - The The
Dig Your Own Hole - Chemical Brothers
All That You Can't Leave Behind - U2
Big Calm - Morcheeba
Decksanddrumsandrockandroll - Propellerheads
Bring It On - Gomez
Gorillaz - Gorillaz
Midnite Vultures (HDCD) - Beck

All great quality and great albums in their own right.

Matt, Not sure about All That You Can't Leave Behind, maybe "Beautiful Day" is a very tough test for my system, but it just doesn´t sound right.

My list:

- NELLY FURTADO - "Whoa, Nelly"

- ANASTACIA - "Not that kind" (this is my wife´s choice, but I have to admit that it sounds quite good)

- Any from DIANA KRALL (Except for "The Look of Love", too "overproduced for my liking, but good engineering)

PS: What about a good SACD to test my sony xe-670?

The K&D Sessions - Kruder & Dorfmeister

Good Jazzy Drum & Bass among other bits, great bass lines throughout, recommended by many.

This has got to be the best mastered album that i have heard and the production is first class.

Who is Jill Scott? by Jill Scott:)
