hi-def question about bit rates

hust got 5th element which it says is HD, according to media player it is playing at about 4805 KBPS variable bit rate, does this sound right for Hi-def stuff??

I have identical footage mastered in
SD
HD with h.264
HD uncompressed

will run some tests and see what bitrates I get.

just gotta find the stuff...

Found the stuff and pointed Media INfo at the folder. No info back re the native HD stream.....bot got output for the other two.....paste follows.

That does seem a bit on the low bitrate side for HD (even if H264 / MPEG4 encoded.
I have seen 8 Mbps HDS streams that are reasonable quality though.

If it was 720p h264 and only 24frames/sec, then maybe just - I've got a 6mbit copy of one of the Rings movies in that format, and it looks pretty good.

If it's mpeg2 though, you'd expect 2-4 times that high.
