Ive managed to track down the Hi Def clips mentioned (I think) in Kramers HS10 thread (Digital PJ section, space shuttle launch etc) to the C't ftp service :)

    http://www.heise.de/ct/ftp/spezial.shtml

My problem now is finding something to play them back with! I have tried NVDVD (total failure) and PowerDVD5 (flickery, mostly doesnt display anything, sound jerky). Im going to try Sonic Cineplayer tonight... but I dont hold out much hope for it.

My PC is a 2.8GHz p4 with 512Mb ram with a gf4. Ought to be powerful enough to play back 720p mpeg2, right? I can cope with 1080p wmv files with a few droipped frames. Thanks for any advice :)

    For more go to:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/codecs.aspx

    http://windowsmedia.com/9series/DemoCenter/VideoQuality.asp?page=6&lookup=VideoQuality

For loads of free demo's including the Terminator2 Hi-Def clips from the T2 Extreme DVD.

From memory you need to play these back in Windows Media Player9. When you do it will download some new codecs from MS (Corona is I think the codec name).

You really so need a powerful PC. I have more or less the same spec as you and it can only just handle 720p. P4 3.06HT is the recommended CPU for this material.

Microsoft are apparently working on a standalone PCI decoder card to assist slower CPU's...
