I ordered this 2 disc-set dvd from CDWOW for a mere £11 inc P&P and the dvd arrived on Thursday, where I watched it with a friend who also heard about the film and was very eagar to see it. After watching the film, needless to say, we were both very impressed by the film.

For those who don't know much about the movie it is a box office phenomenon in China and also the most costly Asian film ever made tipping the scales at about 240 million HK$ (30 million US Dollas). It stars Jet-Li as the leading character and is perhaps one of his best films yet and he is joined by some of the most famous actors/actresses in Hong-Kong: Tony Leung, Maggie Cheung, Zhang Ziyi, Donnie Yen and Daoming Ghen. This movie is planned to be released in Cinemas later this year.

The picture quality on this movie is excellent and is by far one of the most beautifully shot film I've seen yet - the land-scapes, costumes, action choreography and use of colour is exemplary. It is also one of the few Hong-Kong movies to make stunning good use of CGI, even giving Holywood special effects a run for their money.

I watched the whole movie via the DTS ES soundtrack and have to say that I was hugely impressed by the clear, large enveloping soundstage that was presented, making good use of the surround channels as well. The film score was very captivating too.

For anyone who is remotely interested in Chinese martial-arts, you owe it to yourselves to watch this film. It is one of the most beautiful and best martial-arts film available. Definitely the best film I have see this this year.

PS. I personally think this is a better film than Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Note: Hero received these Hong Kong Film Awards:
    Best Cinematography
    Best Art Direction
    Best Costume and Makeup Design
    Best Action Choreography
    Best Original Film Song
    Best Sound Design
    Best Visual Effects

actually, Highbinders/The Medallion is the most expensive HK film made, at about $35-40 US million :)

cd-wow don't list items not in stock. It took nearly a month for me to receive it after ordering a few months ago now. They kept putting it back as they were finding it difficult to get stock.

It is a great film, however I don't think it is in the same league as 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'.

First saw it over a year ago now. It's okay, but has none of the emotional depth or storytelling panache of CTHD.

You are so right it is a great film but it is far superior to crouching tiger in every respect.

There's a new Korean 3-disk Ultimate set now available. Looks very nice with a DTS-ES soundtrack.
