Just get the R3 releases - good picture and superb DTS sound Plus nice and cheap. The Eng subs are easy to read.
Do remember the USA release of House of flying daggers has had a number of cuts to it - mainly violence trims.

See if "THIS" helps. After reading it I bought the Jap version, arrived yesterday. Not watched it but checked a few scenes. Looks very good.

They have now added the r2 review.

House of Flying Daggers R3 has a shocking picture, one of the worst I've seen on a dvd of late.

The original R3 HK single disc yes, the R3 HK 2 disc SE has a much better transfer.

I do indeed have the single disc version, that probably explains it!

I take it you meen you want English dubbed soundtracks? Bad news then mate as I have that version of Hero and there's no English track and by the looks of it niether does that version of House of Flying Daggers :(

I can see this quickly morphing into the age old "Subtitles vs Dubbing" debate  but if having an English dub is essential then it looks as though, in the case of Hero at least, both R1 and R2 are fairly equal.

I dont think the final specs for House of Flying Daggers are out yet but THIS may be of some help (R2 artwork is vastly superior in my eyes :smashin: )

(By the way i'd just stick with the ones you've ordered mate, hopfully you'll see that dubbing is the work of the Devil :D , but each to there own I suppose  )

I've got the R1 version of Hero and have to say I really liked this film a lot. Some really cool uses of colour tone during the film. I actually watched it in its orignal mandarin language with english subtitles, best way to watch it in my book to appreciate the film setting more.

Just watched Hero last night. Thought it was excellent! Again in the original mandarin with english subtitles. It's a stunningly shot film, as mentioned by other people, colour usage is brilliant!

House of flying daggers, I have the R3 2 disc edition, and while it's not as good a film as Hero (in my opinion, anyway), is still worth seeing!

    dubbing? Are you mad?!!

You can get the Ltd edition for 50 euros (book, pen etc) from Germany (R3).

    CDjapan,

Excellent service, well boxed, tissue paper then bubble wrap. Took just over 1 week. There is a two disc version and a single disc. I bought single as not really bothered about extras in foreign language and avoids customs issue if stopped. Still not watched but still looking forward to it.

    SPOILER ALERT!!!

If i recall it says something along the lines off "Snow hanged his sword up in respect of his friends who had fallen and the king went onto unite all the 7 provinces (all under heaven) to create China, he then built the great wall to protect the people."

If this is the bit you mean anyway :)

thanks arn. Tejstar, i havent seen the normal version, so i cant say, but the film is by no means slow IMO so the fights could of been a bit extended? i recomend it as an adition to the uk/us version dvds as the image Q is not quite as good and the subtitle/logo is a pain in the arse. as far as i know this version is only licenced for china at the moment and there are no plans for a worldwide release, plus it would have to be redubbed again for the west.

does anyone know if the original actors did the english dub for this as in crouching tiger?

    cheers
