cd-wow has got the jet li film "HERO" dts 2 disc set back in stock for £10.99 inc delivery.
Does anyone know what the best version is? This, or the limited edition 3 disc boxset?
Best version is the Japaense R2 IIRC. We are still waiting for a good director's cut though.
Thanks, any reason why the Japanese version is superior?
It doesn't have the blue tint present in the 2nd best version, the 2 disc R3.
The Japanese version is different, the blue tint actually makes the film look more magical on the Edko release and it works superbly and isn't distracting at all and the Edko 2 disc release has a full bitrate DTS 6.1 track the Japanese one only has 5.1 DTS, therefore i think the Edko is better and much cheaper although its a case of one being different than the other. ( I own the Edko )
Therefore you might say the Japanese version is better but i think the Region 3 Edko wins hands down for its superb audio presentation.
Avoid the 108 minute versions as from what i gather there are onscreen logos which pop up and the audio is inferior ( picture maybe too )
Thakns, one final question, does anyone know if the limited edition has a full bitrate dts track as well?
hi foxy, can you tell me about the "Edko 2 disc release" is this the one on CDWOW for 10.99 (see link below) or should i be looking elsewhere? i tried to PM you but the sytem would let me.
I don't know about full bitrate, but it is DTS es & the packaging is superb!
Can anybody tell me if this film is any good?
I have tickets for a preview of it at the cinema tomorrow, but don't know if its my cup of tea.
I didnt really get 'crouching tiger...' if that's any help. I think its the floating through the air thing that gets me.
give it a miss then and send me you tickets!!!
The Japanese release (normal or LE) has full rate DTS, it's just not ES (it's 5.1, not 6.1 like the HK-release).
Saying that, from the reviews I've seen that have actually compared them (not just gone 'Ooh! Full rate DTS ES!'), the R2J 5.1 sounds at least as good as the ES.
I have both, but haven't bothered to AB them for sound, as the Japanese in my mind is clearly better for PQ.
Have just order my R3 copy from Cd Wow - £8.49 through the usual routes!
Will let you know what it is like!
I've just ordered the korean ultimate edition, looks like a really nice boxset.
Where did you order this from and how much does it work out to be in GBP.
P.S. Looks awesome!
Only one disc but does anyone know what 'the extended edition' contains etc.
You can get it from koreandvds http://www.koreandvds.com/dvddetail.html?id=17733 I have this set & that picture doesn't do it justice
quick question, does the Korean DVD have a full bit rate DTS soundtrack and are the extras in english (or at least hve English subtitles?)
tcd....don't get that version,it has a symbol that appears in the corner of the screen every 5 minutes and the picture and sound quality are not upto scratch, anyway koreandvd's do that version for a lot cheaper than that.
Some good comparisons here :http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare3/hero.htm
Screencaps comparing the Japanese and Korean LE's here, taken with the same settings on the same setup.
The Hong Kong release is identical to the Korean release for picture quality.
The Korean LE has, as the Edko release, a 1536 Kbps bitrate DTS ES track.
am i right in thinking the reg 3 version is in mandarin is there any versions in english apart from the reg 1 which comes out in november,
I have the Korean Ultimate 3 disc version and I am delighted with it, have a look at DVDCOMPARE for the feature listing on all available versions for more info.
Under £21 inc P+P from Korean DVD's.
