Many of you will have discovered this already, but I really only appreciated it properly tonight.

I was messing about with my TV (Philips 32PF9986) and I was trying out the Picture in Picture feature when I realised that what I was seeing when the screen had two pictures on it is a fairly good representation of what High Definition broadcasts look like. It is basically stuffing, I assume, a 576i picture into something near it's natural resolution.

If you are ever trying to explain to anybody why it is you spent (in my case) two grand on a 'telly' just show them this and I'm sure the penny will drop.

Imagine a full screen picture of this quality! Hope yours can do this too.

Why don't you try a HiDef trailer?

Or HD1, or whatever its called now.

Saw a shop demo just before Christmas.

I want it, and I want it now. Even if it is only a bit of opera and ballet - its still worth watching!
