Dare I say go get a demo?

MXE has no HDCP by the way so won't work with DVD players that have DVI or HDMI.

If all you want to do is watch freeview and DVD, no arsing around, no scalers, HDTV in the future perhaps and maybe a calibration in the next few months to tweak the best from it... get the Pioneer XDE (built in freeview) and enjoy!!

Then I sould suggest a demo. Personally I cannot stand Hitachi screens, but equally I wouldn't want to run an MXE1 from a basic DVD player and freeview. The MXE1 imo is better suited for scaler or HCPC use. For one thing any analogue (svhs, component, vga) connection to the MXE1 suffers crushed detail which cannot be treated (although any connection analogue of digital to a Hitachi looks pants to my eyes!).

Panasonic 42PHD7, NEC 42XR3 are also contenders.

Liam, you're taking my position here! The position of annoying, talking, hitachi hating animal has already been taken.

Well i wouldn't/couldn't count the NEC as contender.......at least not in terms of Picture Quality! for the kit you own a PWD7 seems to be the better VFM option at £1500, if you have £2.5k to spend perhaps upgrading the other componets would be a good idea instead of putting it all into a screen

Many thanks everyone for replays!!!! I have 2k to spend on plasma set even though I prefer plasma monitor not plasma TV. I saw Panasonic PW7 at Tottenham court rd....the PQ looks terrible!!!! That's the reason that I am wondering Hitachi or Pio

AV-Sales seem to be offering a superlative deal on the TH-42PHD7.

Is it worth the extra money over the PW7 and is the 435XDE not as good value in comparision?

Well get yourself a proper demo then. Obviously they must make 2p on a panasonic and have not bothered to connect it properly. You might easily prefer the Hitachi or Pioneer, no problem with that, but the Panasonic does not look terrible unless they've fouled it up.

Madasahat, you have chosen the best username of anyone on the forum. You have lost it, whatever it is. All you ever say is how marvellous your own plasma is. Why don't you just copy this post, and paste it in for your next 'contribution'.

This is off topic and sorry for hijacking the thread but If I were to buy a plasma and a scaler like the iScan would anyone be able to come round and set it up correctly? I'm not buying yet but I'm just wondering if I did....

I live in Bristol btw. Thanks.

Depends if you pay or Not but Piers is a dab hand with these things (He is an ISF tech see www.homecinemaengineering.com for more info and will do a full set-up and Calibration if you like)

    Nick,

HD has beaten me to it. I am regularly in Bristol (my Sister lives in Clifton) and though I am a Lumagen dealer I also know my way around the HD+. ISF would include setting up the scaler (hopefully Lumagen from me).

Yeah I would be prepared to pay as from what I've read scalers seem to be quite complicated, especially for someone like me. Piers - If it turns out I can afford a scaler then I'm not sure which one I'd get i.e it may well be a lumagen. I'm gonna shoot you a pm as this is going off topic from the original thread title.

No, because they burn, I see line flicker, I hate the overscan at 1080i, I hate the brassy bright look of the picture, I hate the poxy PC compatibility, and I don't think much of Hitachi UK and it's attitude to problems.

    madasahat,

Just done a quick 'show posts' on your name. I'd suggest others do the same. All you do is post how wonderful your telly is. No honest advice, no help and no point.

Mad one, I have seen more plasmas than most, all the crap ones are Hitachi or korean, well the korean ones have no chance on picture even against yours TBH. I am not a 'panasonic dealer', I am independent. I choose not to sell Hitachi cos there's too much comeback.

Im confussed just been to richer sounds in bristol and the 2 (32" & 42") plasmas blew everything else out of the water from the picture quality to build quality the 43" panasonic was there and it just seemed very cheap (model without glass front panel pd435fd) both makes were fed the same signal

Demos vary from shop to shop. I was only winding the mad one up about the big H. It's true I'm not keen on them, generally you can do more woth most other panels due to intrinsic design features, but this doesn't bother a strong Hitachi following here. If you've seen it and like it, why not? That Pioneer tends to need TLC on the connections to get the best from it if it's the one with a grey or silver bezel, the MXE1. Great plasma, but likes stroking. Boringly you should probably see a panasonic in action before committing yourself.

Hi Ross, blown your cover. LG is not under discussion in this thread.
