Okay, I've jsut bought a new sound card for my PC from Maplin, it's an Apollo PCI 5.1, probably notgreat but I just wanted something with an optical in. I've slotted into the PC and installed the drivers, but it's not really making any sound. It's just making noises. If i try to play some music it just sounds like static, and the normal clicking noises from selecting icons when on the interent are just bursts of noise. I've got my normal PC speakers connected to it through the front channel output. I don't get why it doesn't work, any ideas, or should just take it back!? There was a Trust sound card that the guy said looked identical, but a little dearer, so he said I may aswell go for the cheaper one!

    Could be a conflict.
Check in device manager to ensure there's nothing obvious.
You could also try disabling the soundcard in the Bios, if it's built into the motherboard.

    Umm...
Did I metinon I'm a bit of a computer numpty!?
All I can say is that when I put the speaker jack back into the original connection (I'm guessing this is what you're referring to on the motherboard) I get nothing out at all.

click start, control panel, system, hardware, then device manager.
Look for any yellow exclamation marks or red crosses.

Bah! I've just uninstalled it and removed it now! I'll put it back in again and try that then.

I still haven't figured out why computers do that.
