    hi

i would like some clear advice please

i am in the market for replacing my current amplifer at the moment. Its a yamaha a595a.

i am willing to spend no more than a grand on the amplifier.

Currently i have a deposit which is refundable on the yamaha's flagship the AX1 (brand new too!), vut I have been informed by another hi-fi specialist that the new yamaha amp - RX-V1200RDS apparently "kicks its butt". If this is the case I could save 150 quid and get a 'better amplifier'

Would any of you agree with this statement? and should I buy the 1200 over the AX1 (if i was to stick with the yamaha brand)?

Alternatively if any of you would have other suggestions for an amplifier within this price bracket that is: -

future proof (for the next few years ... at least)
    good quality
    DTS output
    resonable residuale value (if possible)
    kicks ass (!)

    I would be most grateful.

I would appreciate any advice possible.

    Thank you

PS Is S-Video better output than a high quality scart cable?

The 1200 if you stick with Yamaha, Dolby Prologic II is a must...

Personaly I would rather go for:

    Denon 3802
    Onkyo 797
Rotel 1065 (sorry I had it wrong)
    Marantz 7200

I am not sure of the prices, but they should be close to your budget, and they should be better with music...

If you want future proof, the Tag McLaren AV32R is as good as it gets, but you will have to sell the car...

    Thanks for your advice

so you reckon the ax1 is not the amp to go for?

i have no real ties with yamaha stuff, its good gear but i am open to other options.

Do you reckon the denon 3802 may be the business then, possibly ahead of the yam 1200?

I was told also that Denon gear can be hard to get hold off from a supplier point of view...

    Reply asap ... cheers

Availability I have no idea, but any receiver I mentioned should be good...
