Anyone now where I can get some XLR to RCA cables within say 50 miles of Stoke On Trent ???

Still waiting for my Van Damn ones to arrive but want to be able to go buy some now.

    Thanks

    Bry,

Have you got a line driver? (I'm assuming you're trying to drive your new active speakers with the leads.) IIRC correctly you can't go straight to XLR from an RCA output, there has to be some electronics to convert unbalanced to balanced. There's definately a Genelec product that does this.

You don't have to have the converter - just you don't get the benifits of a balanced line system if you don't.

PS ... have you tried Maplins for the cables?

I'm sure this isn't the case.

The BM6A's have an input selector +4db and -10db
+4db for use with balanced equipment
-10db for use with unbalanced semi pro/home equipment

Unbalanced then pin 3 -ve isn't used and is connected to ground which is done inside the cable.

I may be totally wrong but thats what i'm lead to believe.

    Cheers
    Bry

You're right, sorry. Was thinking about what happens when you go from XLR to RCA - you need a comparator at the RCA end otherwise the signal goes all to hell. The line driver is still a worthwhile product though, but I guess you're saving for the rears as Spligsey suggests.
