I've recently purchased a Sony KE32ts2 plasma tv. I connect my X-box, Game Cube & PS2 all to the TV through RGB scart leads to the RBG scart scokets on the tv. The Sony Plasma tv also has the full component video inputs on the back. I've read recently that the best way to connect your X-box to a video source is through component video, but i'm not exactly sure how to do this..? I've tried to buy the component leads from games shops & have been told they are not officially available in the UK (US HDTV market only), but if i buy the leads on-line does the uk PAL X-box support them? & work also, would the UK X-box & games support progressive scan outputs that i've also read some games have been supporting??

Hi, Game do a High Definition Pack by Gamester for about £15. I have one, and it works great. Last time I was in my local Game store (Stratford upon Avon), they had one.

The pal xbox does not support Prog Scan, yes the component cable works but only for standard interlaced 480i which is basically the same as RGB scart.
If you want 480p,720p etc the Gamester pack is no good and i speak from experience on this.
To get Prog Scan from your pal xbox it must be modded and region switched to ntsc, if you do insist on a component connection the official ntsc HDTV pack is the best option you have.
forget the gamester pack it's a box full of ****e

thanks for the info, i've seen various x-box mods 1 is even solder free - any suggestions. Finally will any of the PAL games that i already own output 480p or higher or will i have to buy the same games again but import ntsc ones?

I have a Executor 2.2 lite in mine, it cost me £40 to get it modded locally so no postage costs. Regarding pal software and Prog Scan i'm not sure as i only have two US games and use my xbox mainly for emulation. Maybe someone else can comment on this issue as i would be interested to know myself

Most (virtually all) PAL xbox games will output 480P when run on a chipped XBox (in NTSC mode) with the hi-def pack attached.

You'll need to enable hi-def modes in the xbox dashboard, of course.

There are a few PAL games that don't run in NTSC mode, but they're rare. The only major game that doesn't work so good is Halo - the PAL version tends to stutter a bit if you run it in NTSC mode, or even PAL-60 mode. The 'proper' NTSC halo runs fine in NTSC mode.

Me and soldering irons don't get on mate, ever since i tried to fit a region switch to a pal saturn about four years ago and some how managed to kill the console. After that £40 was a good price for me ;)
