Help with sub woofer plz

Sorry if this has been asked before, but here goes.

I've recently bought this surround sound speaker system, which came with this sub woofer.

Now, this is the AV reciever I bought to acompany it all. There is only one RCA port for the subwoofer out, but there's only phono ports on the back of the subwoofer.

Does that mean I will need to buy one of these for it to work or will a regular mono subwoofer cable do?

If either would work, is there any preferance for which to use or will both yeild the same results?

EDIT: Some addtional info please. I have some regular Kenwood hi-fi speakers and some floor standing warfdale speakers. Could i use either of these to upgrade the 5.1 system to a 7.1 system?

You need a standard subwoofer cable going from the subwoofer pre-out on the amp to one of the inputs on the sub i.e. Left. It's a mono channel anyway.

As for the other speakers, possibly but your fronts need to be the same to keep the system tonally matched and balanced otherwise when effects transfer from one side of the screen to the other, they'll sound wrong. You can buy the eggs separately so I would consider selling the other speakers and putting it towards more eggs, should you deem 7.1 necessary, which personally I would only consider doing if your room is large.
