HI all,

I'm trying in vein to build a quiet PC.

I currently have a SilenX PSU which is silent, SilenX CPU cooler (can't hear a thing when the cover is on), and a single 80mm SIlenX exhaust fan.

My problem is the noise the exhaust fan makes, the fan itself is silent but there's a lot of wind noise and I have no idea how to silence it ?

ANy advice would be greatfully received.

THanks !

Paul.

What sort of 'hole' is the fan fixed to?

Is it a screwed on grill or punched out of the case type?

It's now an open hole and has those vibration reducing gromit fixing things.

Ducting then?

Can't think of anything else that might help.

Yeah I'm at a loss really, I thought it was because of the nasty grill that had been cut out of the case to start with (alu case) so I cut it out and it's a full 80mm square opening now so i'm a little confused.

I may try some ducting, cheers for the idea !

Another possibility is a bottleneck for the airflow somewhere inside the case - maybe around the inlets.

Yeah I think I'll have to do a bit of investigating !
