    Hi all.

I'm just about to purchase some screen material for my first projector. I've decided on a fixed screen since its in a dedicated AV room, so I just need the screen material rather than a retractable screen. And screening will be done in black out condition with low ambient light.

I am however a little confused by the option laid down in front of me.

Here's how it goes at the moment:

I'm deliberating between 2 screen material at the moment, both are from DRH. The two screen materials are the High Gain and the High Power, with 1.8 and 3.2 gain respectively.

I was considering the brute force approach by just buying the High Power stuff with the 3.2gain. What advantages and disadvantages are there with such a high gain screen? Or would the 1.8gain be better?

Can somebody please put me out of my misery and recommend one of these materials to me.

My Projector is an LCD model NEC VT45:

700 ANSI lumens in eco2 mode though can do 1000 ANSI on full but I won't be using it with this as lamp life is reduced to 1000hrs.

    Contrast Ratio is 300:1

    Thanks for any input.

Going to stick with the retractable da-lite model B screen for now and build a fixed screen later on.

Cheers for all the help though

Maybe too late now ;) but you definitely don't want 3.2 gain  unless you've a CRT. Even 1.8 is far too high a gain for any LCD/DLP - hotspotting problems etc..

I'd suggest 1 or 1.2:1 gain for LCD.

    :)

if you are going to buy fabric from drh just get the matt white. it has a gain of 1 and is getting a lot of good reports from many places.

    Cheers for the input.

I'll leave it now as I'm happy with the performance from the da-lite.

Would prefer a fixed screen though. It will have to wait for now I guess.

    Hi All,

Sorry to hijack this thread, but i'd like to ask a few questions....

I've had a look at the DRH site, what's the best material for use with an Barco Data 800 CRT projector ??

After looking around most people state that 1.3 gain is ok for use with a CRT projector.

I've got some spare Dazian Coated Celtic Cloth (Around 1.0 Gain)to make a screen, but i think it won't be refective / bright enough. OK for LCD use, but not for CRT.

So what do i go for.............High Gain or High Power ?? I prefer the specs of the High gain material, as it's got a better viewing angle.

    What's your thoughts ??

    Cheers

Viewing angles are exactely the same - variation begins at 45 and -45 degrees.

Its just the Highpowers peak value is 3.2 and the Highgain is 1.8.

No idea which is best for you since I'm new to all this projector stuff myself. But the 1.2gain from my da-lite model b is fine for my pj.
