Are the surround right and left speakers connected to the amp with speaker wire? If not, then that is necessary.

The Pioneer HTP-070 is only a 5.1 system so wouldn't accommodate (or need) surround back speakers.\

Surround back speakers are only used within 7.1 setups.

Are all the supplued speakers that came with the setup connected to the receiver and have you followed the setup instructions given in the manual?

But would the speaker test then try and play tones to surround back left and right? I was guessing that the OP meant surround speakers, rather than surround back.

Apparently the AV receiver that comes with the system (the VSX321) is only a 5.1 receiver so it neither has back speaker terminals nor would it output a test tone associated with back speakers.

and you have 5 speakers and the sub connected to the receiver? If so then I'd suggest you ignore the SBR and SBL channels because the receiver doesn't have the ability to drive back speakers so you cannot add them.

Okay. So something isn't working. It might be that it isn't configured correctly, or that something is broken. Did you buy it new or second hand?

Some troubleshooting steps would be to try connecting the surround right and left speakers to the fron right and left amp outputs and trying the test tones again. This way you can eliminate whether it is the speakers that are the problem or the amp.

Do you get test tones from five speakers (front, left centre, surround right and surround left)?
