help with purchasing dvd recorder

i have dvd player mulitregion macrovsion disabled i would like to get a dvd recorder to back up my dvd disc is this possible does it record 5.1 digital soundtrack what is the cheapest dvd recorder and is it dvdr disc that are only 1 pound each what is the best recording format to use where can i get one from thanks
