Help with PSP

Hello
Just wondered if anyone could help me with regard to my sons PSP. I'm not too good with this kind of stuff so hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

Basically my sons PSP will not load the UMD games. I have downloaded upgrades and made sure the unit wasn't switched off, however it now comes up saying 'Game cannot be loaded'

Any ideas would be great as I will have a really hacked off 10year old all weekend. :lease:

Thanks
Amanda

I downloaded updates this morning, thinking that this may be why the umd was reading 'disc error'. The download went fine however after the download the umd then read ' game cannot be loaded'.

Don't know if that helps, hope it does.

Ok will try that this evening. Thank you.

The only thing being is that do you think it will revert to Disc error if I downgrade, like it was doing before the upgrade and if it does what would that mean???

Thanks Again

Well tried to take it back yesterday (to argos, the only place with them on launch day), they refused to do me a replacement - just gave me a number to ring sony, saying it would be quicker to call them myself than leave it with them.
not best pleased, at all.

They are responsible as the seller to replace/refund - go back and ask for the manager.

That was the manager, and I did quote the sales of goods act, all i could get was along the lines of there policy was to take the thing to be repaired or replaced which would take 21 days, or i could call sony myself and hopefully have it sorted quicker from my home (or hopefully work).
i wasn't sure if it was my choice wether it was a repair or replace or the shops.

Had they run out of stock? I would have thought a place like Argos would just do a swap - good luck getting a preplacment

No.... *sigh*
They had stock - i checked as it was a 12 mile drive each way....
Another branch replaced / refunded other electric items (mini fridge / cheap 5.1 sound system) of a similar age. seems they have different rules for consoles.
Been told a colleauge had a refurb sent - you do a swapsie with a courier, unfortunately - he's on his third, and the psp you get isn't even wiped of the previous user's data (background pictures, etc)

that reminds me - must delete my wireless logons!

I'm still very unimpressed.

Update, called sony, 2 minutes on-hold -
no hassle call, a courier is due to turn up at work between 8 and 6 tommorrow to bring me a refurb.
Slightly better feel now, sony's service much better than that catalog shop.

Also, argos numpty told me not to bother calling sunday as they only work office hours, sony's line is open till 10pm weekdays, 6pm weekends. If would have called yesterday could have had psp back by now.....

The Sale of Good act isnt quite as clear cut as Watchdog would have you believe - basically the store is only obliged to give you a replacement/refund within a "reasonable" time frame. That period is not set in stone or defined but it is generally taken to mean the 1st month. Within the warranty period they are obliged to replace any failures but this rarely means giving you a new one - usually its either sent off to be repaired or referred to the original granter of the 12 month warrany - ie the manufacturer. The store themselves would be at the mercy of the manufacturer replacing the unit had they given a new unit out - if the manufacturer was to refused the store would have lost 1 unit of stock. What with all the firmware hacking going on with the PSP I am sure they are more than happy to let Sony handle all the firmware borkings that are going on.

The eagle has just landed.
All works - no dead pixels that i can spot (which means one less the original unit).:smashin:
Drive up and running, quieter if i'm honest.
But, it just feels a little odd, (like coming home from school to find a similar but slightly indescribablly different, younger looking, hamster in the cage), The new psp is rougher at the back, wether thats just because i'd worn my old one down with hours on football manager or if it's a newer model(this is a 1004 model, the old one was 1003). or if it's just because if has (update: HAD) lots of french warning stickers on it!

Either way, sorted. but, I could have done without the hassle.

Found the spanner in the works,
there is a small layer of foam covering the the top of the screen about 5 pixels deep, tapering to 0 pixels at the far right, to me it looks like a bodge when they have re-attached the screen, I think it's a call back to them despite the fact that I'm fairly sure it's a simply case of taking it's face off and pushing the foam back.

So, not so great after all!

Just a (hopefully) final update.
2nd replacement has turned up this morning, I'm back to a 1003 model from the 1st replacement 1004. Still v2.6
The buttons are a little softer/ worn but most importantly the screen is on straight and not obscured by a great wedge of foam!
Couldn't spot a dead pixel either!
