Hey,
I got this TV today: The Mirai DTL-632V200

http://www.mirai.eu/Uk/ProductDetails&product_id=46&cat_id=43

There seem to be some problems when using it with my PS3 which I would be eternally greatful if anyone could help me solve. It is connected via HDMI, and the display settings on the PS3 are set manually with every box apart from 1080p ticked.

1. The main menu on PS3 with the XMB has a fairly wide light green bar running from the top right hand corner of the screen to the bottom middle of the screen. There are wavy lines within the green bar. This menu is being output at 1080i.

2. The sky in Motorstorm has wavy looking lines on it. It is being output at 720p

2. When watching a dvd, the picture does not fill the whole screen. It is square and has big black banners at the sides, as if it were being shown on a 4:3 TV screen.

3. There are so many different settings on the TV like contrast, sharpness, backlight etc etc, and I have no idea what settings will show the PS3 the best is possibly can. Anyone know which are the best settings to use?

Please help, this is really frustrating me :(
Cheers :)

For 2. it sounds like you haven't set the settings on your PS3 to let it know you are using a widescreen tv. Can't remember where they are exactly but it will be in video settings, or dvd settings.

I cant find an option to set it to widescreen. I don't have this problem with any games, just DVDs :( Anyone?

1. Try another HDMI cable and see if that helps, have you got another HDMI source you can try to work out whether it is the TV or the PS3?

2. As above

3. Sounds like the aspect on your TV is set wrong, have a play around with the aspect settings. There is no option to chose widescreen with the PS3 through HDMI.

4. Use your eyes im afraid.

Thanks so much! You have sorted out problem 3, the aspect on my TV was set to automatic, so i set it to 16:9 and problem sorted! :D

As for your advice for points 1 and 2, I only have one HD source (PS3) and one HDMI cable (the one from Game called Gameware). Really think it could be the cable causing the problems? Thought they were all the same?

Oh, and one last thing....do SD television programmes (Sky Digital) always look this crappy on HDTVs?

I dont think its the cable but you have to rule it out.

Depends how good your HDTV is :)
