Help with picture quality on Samsung UE40D LED

We've had a Samsung UE40D8090 for about three years now, and last week it started having problems with dark pictures. After about 15 minutes of playing either a movie or game with lots of blacks, dark scenes etc, the blacks begin brightening up almost to a greenish hue, and after about 30 minutes the picture becomes even worse and even starts smearing and bleeding. It becomes nigh unwatchable at that point.

You can imagine it like if you turn the contrast setting on a computer screen way up and the black tones become this dark-green hue.

We have a three year-old in the house and even though we usually don't leave the remote lying around, it's not impossible that he's messed with it somehow and changed a setting or two. But I've done a factory reset yesterday and that didn't seem to help.

I've tried different setting, including black levels, all to no avail.

Has anyone experienced something similar before? Is this a known issue and if so, can it be solved somehow?

Many thanks in advance!
