Help with old Cine camera footage

I have some really old reel projector footage that has been transfered to VHS. However, as is the nature of reel footage it is scratched to hell and the scratches were transfered onto the VHS tape as well.

Is there any software out there that I can transfer the VHS footage into and then repair the scratches without having to repair it frame by frame?(there is probably about 1h 30mins of footage, weddings etc)

This site offers advice on video restoration. It mainly deals with restoring old VHS sources but you might find it useful as a starting point.
There are repair filters for Virtualdub, which is a free video capture/processing utility for Windows, but you'd better have plenty of spare time on your hands.
