Looking for views on best LCD TV of the moment that is around 26-30" and under £2K. Needs to have DVI input as it will be hooked up to an HTPC.

    Am currently considering the following:

Phillips 26PF9946 - Anyone used one of these and able to provide some feedback?
    http://www.digital-point.co.uk/model.asp?ID=1457

Thomson 27LCDB03 - Anyone used one of these and able to provide some feedback?
    http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/CatalogueItem_15881.html

Medion 30" - looks like good value, but no stock for 3-4 weeks
    http://www.dabs.com/uk/Search2/Product+Details.htm?quicklinx=37v2&searchphrase=30 lcd

Phillips 30PF9975 - what's the difference between this and the 30PF9946?

I know that Home Cinema Choice gave the Thomson 27" a good review recently and having seen it at Comet it looks OK, but appeared to distort panning pictures - could just Comet dodgy source signal I guess. I found a comparative review of the Medion on a German website and they rated the Medion better than the Thomson http://www.warentest.de/pls/sw/SW$NAV.Startup?p_KNR=5004175437983020040805003845&p_Inh=I:1173441&p_Bez=cb.

Any feedback would be much appreciated

    Thanks

Well all I can say is that I've got the Medion one and its absolutely fantastic. I don't have experience of the two Philips that you mentioned but I did have their 23 inch display and the Medion was definately better than that. However, the 30 inch is meant to have excellent image processing which may be good if you watch a lot of Sky but you'll want to turn it off if you watch a lot of DVDs.

If you do like Philips though, it might be worth having a look at the Philips 32PF9986, which you can get for £2300 if you search on kelkoo. Its in Home Cinema Choice now and it their 'Best Buy' (page 58). Personally I think its a bit tacky looking and could look a bit dated within a few years but it is 32 inch and does have DVI. However it doesn't do component.

    Hope that helps a bit!!

    Thanks for the advice.

Spanky - I personally aren't keen on the appearance of the Philips 32", and I understand it will only support 1024x768 on the DVI input rather than the native resolution. :suicide:

The Medion does look like good value for money, particulary considering my requirement for DVI input at native resolution which restricts the choices somewhat. I have taken the plunge and placed an order for the Medion. The way I see it, it will end up in the bedroom in a year or two anyway. :smashin:
