Might be just how it is but when I playback CR in 1080p from bluray using HDMI into a Sony 40w2000 panel capable of 1080p the picture is jeaky with movement. Not a great deal but almost like every other frame is missing and the gap is too wide to be convincing.

I have turned off all processing on tv and set to full-pixel so no scaling is going on has anyone any suggestions ?

from what i read it is quite normal, mine does it too, not sure what will be done to correct this if it can be corrected

Haven't noticed anything like it on my telly, Sharp LC-37XD1E.

I flicked through mine and didn't notice anything obvious,I watched a few parts for 10-15 mins and still didn't see anything "wrong"

Its not just CR, I have a couple of Blu-ray disks and they both do it especially noticable on panning shots.
Don't know whether progressive makes any difference, can't get it myself, my TV doesn't have 1080p and I can't get the PS3 to output 720p.

What you are seeing is 3:2 pulldown. Do a search for this term, or 'judder' for suitable explanations :)

Don't know about 1080p but I watched it at 1080i on my Bravia 32V2000 and it was smooth as silk. Really amazed at overall quality. I don't use wireless incase that might be your issue as I'm connected over ethernet. Had read somewhere that WiFi might be cause of some pausing etc.

If it's while the picture is panning then it's your telly that has a problem. I spent quite a lot of time in the LCD TV section before purchasing my telly and I made sure I bought one which had no known problems with slow panning shots.

I've never noticed it with DVD or TV. I think the problem is 3:2 pulldown as has already been mentioned.

I understand that urban T, but what is the solution for the PS3? will firmware update, solve this dilemma?

As is my understanding, pretty much only way of doing is for both the source AND your TV to support 1080p24, which is what movies are filmed at. I don't think any TVs that support this have been released yet.

I seem to remember reading that the pioneer plasmas supported 1080p 24

I have a Pioneer 436XDE and it does support 1080p24 and Pioneer are soon to release their Bluray player which will also output this so it will be a perfect match to avoid this problem.

I have noticed the judder problem which as mentioned is caused by 3:2 pulldown, but I also compared Misiion Impossible 3 on Bluray and standard DVD and there isn't much difference in the amount of judder between the two. Also considering the amount of extra detail on Bluray, I don't have any complaints.

Here's hoping for 1080p24 output from the PS3 via a firmware update!!!!

Is the DVD player connected via HDMI? some TV's only apply their processing filters on all inputs except HDMI.
I can't remember which TV's were affected by the slow panning issue, but I did come across it while searching for a telly to buy.

For example, Philips have pixel plus for SD enhancement and pixel plus HD which does the same for HD sources...same with Sharp, TruD and TruD HD.

I have a DVD player connected via HDMI and a recorder connected via scart both of which don't exhibit the same symptom as the PS3 does via HDMI.

Maybe I've opened a can of worms saying about the panning but this is one place where the problem is noticeable. It doesn't have to be panning though, it was very noticeable in Ice age the meltdown when certain creatures moved left, right, up or down.

The motion is not 100% fluid.

As has been said, it's caused by 3:2 pulldown. The only way around this is to have a source that outputs 1080p/24 into a display that can accept this. As Blu-Ray is recorded in 1080p/24, no conversion need occur and silky smooth motion is yours :D

Note that your screen does not have to natively show a 1080p signal i.e 1920x1080, it just has to be able to accept it (and then downscale it).

i'v seen this also on a dedicated samsung bluray player (1500euro value) hooked up on the 42F series 1080p lcd tv. looked really jerky!!i

Thanks for all replies. Looks like its an issue we have to live with.

So spent £424 on SONY PS3, £1350 on SONY TV and its worse than the CRT I used to have.. sometimes its not all its cracked up to be.

hd is a work in progress , look at hdmi 1.2 to 1.3 for starters

unfortunately for sony etc the general poplulace is vastly more intelligent and well informed than say 10 years ago . particularly due to the wonderful gift of the internet

knowledge really IS power

explains why those cretins in the govt are so behind the great analogue switch off , i suppose it mirrors their pinhead level brains , they're switched off most of the time
