I am a beginner in this area so please be gentle. I love this forum and have learned so much about a myriad of topics. I do not know if I am posting in the right forum

I am trying to build put together a HTPC

I am getting a projector (1080P) and a Marantz receiver (which has a solid DAC inside) and wanted to hook up my MSI Computer Corp. GT60 2OKWS 3K-615US 15.6-Inch Laptop to two 6tb hard drives mainly filled with music but has some movies, no gaming.I will hook this up through the receiver I will mainly use KODI, VLC and maybe plex. I had a few questions:

    1. Is this a good set up? should I do anything different get another computer- HTPC?
    2. Do i need another DAC if the receiver has one?
    3. I do have a Nvidia up stairs and a Gbox Q (not is use) but the problem is I do not think either box can handle 2 hard drives of this size at the same time. Can they?
    4. I take it running a USB cord to a product is much better than a NAS?
    5. Is there anything i should replace inside the computer?
    6. I take it I can use a harmony remote if I hook up an IR blaster to the Note book?
    7. Thank you so much I really do Appreciate it

that a few questions buddy but basically as long as the graphics card on ur machine has hdmi you should be golden, you will connect it to your av receiver (marantz) that will do all the audio processing if your going to be watching movies via kodi etc u will need to set kodi up correctly to enable passthrough audio. other than that a simple machine with a decent graphics card to output video at 1080p as your projector is limited to this resolution. now the specs u list will easily be able to do all of this. i used a laptop as a htpc but i found it annoying and just bought a dedicated mac mini to run as a htpc mainly caus its cleaner setup and dont have to faff with wires but obviously at an additional cost.
