Hi All,

a friend suspects that their emails are being opened by an ex. Some have have registered to the sender as opened and a few others have informed of events, which have caused some, hmm wonderment etc.

What can this person do to confirm this and do about it?

changing the password is first on the list.

Regards.

Ged.

To prove they've accessed the e-mails, I would have thought it is worthwhile contacting the e-mail provider and checking what I.P's have been used to access the e-mail server. Obviously this is far easier to do if it is an e-mail address provided by a paid provider such as an ISP and chances are the free services will not provide you with such information. Alternatively, ask her...

get her to send some really bogus emails that he will pick up on and relish in.... The fact that she knows about his intrusion gives her the upper hand. Set up an alternative email addy so that genuine emails don't get hacked again, but also and get mates to join in the game of bogus emailing so he does not suspect anything with the old account. Humiliate the git by trapping him. She should not be scared, she should get even.

A hotmail account is farely easy to crack to someone with "insider" knowledge. Aswell as changing the password, also change details like postcode, answers to secret questions, etc, these can all be used when you hit the "I've forgotten my password" button.

Thanks for that, a little game of cat and mouse may bring him out.
