help with devil may cry

i need some help on devil may cry on ps2, i am on mission 17 how do i get up to get the quicksilver i can kill the dragon but im stuck after that

Its been a VERY long time since I've touched DMC since it was my mates... Did the dragon thing create lightning bolts vertically like small quakes... That you had to jump? And created red disks in mid air? I can't remember specific missions since it was a long time ago plus all of them were rather short.
