    Hi Guys

I've been trawling the forum for a couple of days looking at all the great advice people give and receive - hoping I can drop a couple of questions in that suit my needs and see how we get on.

I'm looking to upgrade my TV that I've had since 2011 - (Sony Bravia - unsure of the model) 40") -

I don't have a set budget, however the models at the top of my list so far are <£500, but if there is a TV that far exceeds these sets that isn't a million miles away in price, I would happily pay more, as I tend to get my moneys worth with TV's.

The two models I have in mind are the 40" Panasonic EX700, and the Philips 43" PUS6703/6753.

I realise I'm not going to be getting the highest standard at this size and price point, so I would be willing to go up to 49/50" if there are TV's that far exceed these two options.

Will mainly be using for movies and watching football. I will be sitting about 2-2.5m away from the screen, and I don't care about sound quality as I have a soundbar set up.

    Questions:
-Are the two panels I've specified any good? The reviews seem solid, especially for the Philips.
-If I increased to 49/50", will the picture quality be far superior?
-What panels do you recommend, and why?

    Thanks in advance!

Could you go to 55”? More choice at that size.

I just think 55" will be way too big for my living room, so 50 would be my limit.

Sony XE/F85 - XE is 2017 so may be difficult to find. Both at 49”

    Hisense U7A @ 50”.

    Panasonic EX700/750

I would be looking to go up in size. New 40” will look small due to size of bezel.

The Philips 50PUS6703 seems to be very good. ;)

The only thing that concerns me with how bulky it sounds. 6.8cm depth sounds a lot to me, my current tv is about 3cm. The review sounds excellent though

That Phillips will probably be using the same VA panel as every other 50" TV such as the Hisense 50U7A.. Many been suggested already.

It's expensive compared to others, I remember people even picking up a refurb Panasonic 50EX700 for £350 on their eBay store.

Thickness will be down to edge or direct lit, nowadays it doesn't really matter though.
