Before purchasing a Toshiba RD-XS32 or the Pioneer 520H could someone tell me whether I will be able to insert chapters at each scene on my home videos (or at the beginning of each song on music videos) on VHS which I wish to archive to DVD-R (to play on other DVD players). Also will either of these machines (or any other) allow the chapters to be named?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Thanks for your help Nunew33.

Do you know whether the Pioneer can do the same?

Tosh (& probably others) will autochapter if you use DV in. You can select how the autochapter works, but a "per scene change" option is there.

I believe most recorders will not transfer your chapters if you use real time copying. They are retained in high speed copy.
The Tosh will allow a chapter menu with thumnails, not possible on any other HDD currently.
If you are editing home video, each section you record will automatically have a chapter mark, but so long as you use HSC these can be deleted and placed wherever you want, and with all bar the Philips HDD model, you can copy sections to dvd in any order you choose
