Can anyone help me to connect my 840 a to my dennon avr what settings I need to change.
If I am right I go from the avr pre outs to one of the 840a rca inputs and the change some of the settings on the amps.
Thanks all

page 16/17 of the manual shows you how to set one of the inputs as fixed gain.

https://techsupport.cambridgeaudio....200154372/Azur_840A_User_Manual_-_English.pdf

So connect the front l/r Pre-outs to the 840 input 1 (or any other), then set this input to fixed gain and set to a similar volume as you had with the avr. This input when selected will now be controlled by the volume on the avr. You now need to run the avr setup to reset the front two speakers to the desired volume.

I guess if you download a sound meter app on your phone you could set the avr to reasonably loud, take a reading from one front speaker at the level of the tweeter at about 12”/30cm, it should be around 80-85dB(A). Then connect in the 840 and adjust the fixed gain to give the same volume. This is a bit rough and ready but would get you 90% of the way there without running the avr setup again. My preference would be to run the setup again though.

Now, if you are listening to surround, switch on the avr and the 840 and select input 1 on the 840 and the volume for the fronts will be controlled by the avr as before. If you have a stereo input (turntable, cd etc) connect it to other inputs on the 840 and then just use this when listening to stereo sounds, obviously the subwoofer will not be used but the 840 will drive the front two speakers full frequency range.

Hope this helps.

I have now done this but I have no sound from the front speakers
Pre out on avr to input 2 on the 840a and set to fixed 840 volume set to 40.
I bought the av volume up but only got sound from the center speaker. I must have done something wrong.
One more try or I'll be up a night fiddling.

You have to select the 'direct' option on the front panel or the remote. This will pass the signal direct to the power amp side of the Cambridge.

Just to check, Pre-cut on denon are the front left and right not the zone 2 or 3 ones. You have turned the 840 on and selected input 2.

Have you tried changing the 840 volume, if it changes the volume then there is something not set right, if it does nothing it is ok.

At volume 40 is there normally decent volume on the 840 with other sources?

All up and running iveI not set any changes to the volume yet but it sounds pretty near.
Can I pick your minds once more on how to balance the volume.
Do I raise the fixed volume on the 840 or the denon amp or both.
I am just getting back into av and stereo after going over to headphones and I am making a few changes and have lots
Of questions you guys will end up knowing what I had for breakfast.

If you have the correct connection, ie, pre-outs to the dedicated by-pass inputs then the volume is controlled by the receiver only. The Cambridge's volume control should have no effect at all as it is by-passed.
