I am looking for some help and suggestions on what amp and speakers I should buy.

Recommendations for the amp are Yamaha RX-V473, RX-V573 with Cambridge Audio Minx speakers

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

Do you have any restrictions in terms of speaker or receiver size?
    What is your max budget?

The speakers cannot go on the walls.

Budget is about 1200, but may stretch it further.

    Thanks

With that budget I would look at the Q Acoustics 2000 AV speaker package instead of the minx. Your choice of receiver are good solid ones. Could also look at the Onkyo 515 or Denon 1613

    Thanks for the reply.

Why do you choose Q acoustics? Is there features I should be looking for?

    Cheers

Go with the sony range of new amps they are fantastic. And great value for money. They also sound less harsh than that of there cheaper japanese counter parts

I would choose the QAs because they are conventional sized standmounts so will sound better than a sub/sat system for the same money. The QAs will get down to 80Hz which means the sub will not be able to be localised soshould give a more seamless sound. I you are not restricted in speaker size then I would not go for a sub/sat system as they will always be compromised in terms of sound quality compared to conventional speakers of the same price.
