help with a 'pelmet'

Hi, I'm not even sure if that's the correct term for what i'm after.

Basically what i'm after is a shelf like structure that is going to go around the room at the top of the wall with a gap just below the ceiling to have an led strip round it. I think Jagdeepp had something similar on his home cinema build. I'm wanting to have it hide the projector so the screen drops through a slit in the structure and comes down in front of the TV. I'm also after having some spot lights in it and using it to run the HDMI cable from the Amp to the Projector at the back of the room.

My walls are plasterboard and so is the ceiling.

Can anyone point me in the direction of some threads with some best practice in particular on the joinery aspect of installing these, also on the wiring aspect of it.

Thanks for any advice.

The curious light spill above the pelmet was from the rear of the down lights before the tops went on.
This won't be a problem for you as you are only up-lighting as I understand it.

great stuff, thanks for the input. I think i'll spend this weekend down the timber merchants, I can see myself needing a lot of 2x2 and MDF.

thanks.
