Help wanted buying budget 5.1 decoder!

Hi,

I have a Videologic Digitheatre 5.1 decoder (not the DTS!) & amp (the amp is built into the Sub-Woofer).
I'm reasonably happy with it, but it does lack features such as being able to set delays to individual speakers.
So I'm in the market for a new decoder!

Would you recommend buying all new kit (decoder & amp) or just a decoder & plug into the amp - the subwoofer/amp has 6 inputs for such a senario.

I'm on a budget (who isnt!) and so can only spend upto £250 max - I don't need speakers.

I need a decoder cos my DVD player (Samsung 850) doesn't have 6 outputs, just an optical & coaxial out!

Most specialist decoders are quite expensive, consdierable more than GBP250. A better option would be to buy an inexpensive receiver and just use it as a pre-amp.

The terms 'decent' and 'under £250' very rarely go hand in hand. I suggest you make do with what is available such as the Denon AVR1706.
