    Hi,

I've made the decision to get a Pioneer VSXC-301 Amp.

But when it comes to the speakers I have to get something that looks 'nice', otherwise SWMBO ( :kisses: )says they're not allowed in the lounge. :(

    So....

The look/style she has decided on from flicking through mags are the floor standing column type. Nothing too flimsy looking.

I thought I'd solved it by picking out the Mission FS1's but with the floor stands on them, they are still only 460mm tall.

I need something taller, minimum of 1m.

I also had my eye on the Panasonic SBTP55's but at £500 they're a bit out of my budget.

So the budget end of the range was some Limit HC40's (in silver) but these are 'incompatible' with amps coz they have their own internal amp....

So.... can anyone point me in the direction of some floor standing, silver/aluminium over 1m higher column style speakers for around the £200 mark?

    Thanks !

I know talking to yourself is the first sign of madness, but I've just found these as well.

    Eltax Arcades

But I assume they're new as I can't find them for sale anywhere!

So no idea of price

Anyone got any opinions on these?

All I can say is they look cool. I can't find any UK source at the moment.:) Spec looks ok, but you will need a sub to cover 90Hz and below.

    2-way closed box
    70 Watt
    100 Watt
    90 - 20.000Hz
    85dB
    4 - 8 Ohm
    23mm neodynium
    2 x 65mm shielded
    105 x 310 x 86mm
    Clip

    Very nice....but...

    Only 50cm tall.

And I don't know how much they are but something tells me they're a bit out of my budget !

I need them higher than about 1m otherwise they'll be stuck behind the sofa.

A friend of mine used this tactic, cut out a bunch of pictures of prospective speakers from magazines, lay them out on the floor, ask her which ones she likes. In most instances she will choose the most expensive which means you can stretch the budget because she chose them. ;) Can be tricky as she might choose the eltax set for example. This is (hopefully) unlikely as the more expensive they are, the better they look (wives included ;))

Pakehurst I am in completely the same situation...

Can anyone think of another setup of speakers? I've got my own sub however, so I'm looking for a set of five speakers, front being preferably floorstanders, rears not.

Im afraid good sound and style dont come cheap:rolleyes: the best sound/style speaker ive heard for under £500 are the blueroom minipods, even the blueroom sub looks the mutts nuts. But the minipods are £250 at the cheapest and thats for a single pair.I think those eltaxs are rebadged Teac reference 700 speakers which should mean they'll sound OK.Dont really rate eltax speakers though,a few of my m8s have got them simply for the halls at uni,and they sound like utter poop.Build is terrible too.I think this package has been mentioned a million times on this forum but:2 pairsof mission m71 and an m7c2 should set you back at £200ish,looks quite nice and sounds fab.Best cheap speaker around!I have some for rear speaker duties(soon to change to m51) and theyve done their simple job well for many years.U say u have a sub already so i think themission combo will fit the bill nicely.
