    Hi,

I'm a complete noob regarding home audio and cinema. All my music has been delivered through apair of headphones for about the last 5 years and TV audio has come from the standard ones attached to the TV.

I went and treated myself to a nice new projector and a 5.1 speaker system. My DVD player has a 5.1 output built in to it which I'll be using until my wife recovers from the shock of the outlay for the projector, then I'll buy a good amp :) but I don't know how to get my speakers attached to my DVD player as the input is like a phono and the speaker wire is just the 2 bare wires.

Basically this is what I want to do.

    Make this...

Any help on what type of adaptor/attachment I would need for my speaker wires would be greatly appreciated.

The 5.1 output from your DVD player is unamplified and can't be connected to loudspeakers unless the signal is first amplified.

You could just use the optical or coax connection from the DVD to the amp , rather than 6 Phonos . Depends on the DVD player and what amp you intend on using :)

Without knowing what type of DVD player you have it is difficult to know what those connectors that you pictured are for. If your player also handles DVDA or SACD they may be for connecting to an external input on an amplifier to replay those signals.

Best bet is to buy an amp (tell the wife that it came free with the projector) and you will find a single digital connector on your DVD player which will attach to the amp

My DVD/Divx (cheapo from ebay) player has a optical output and the Amp I'm going to get has an optical input so would it be best to use those instead? If so, what kind of cable would I need... Im guessing an optical one :)
