    Dear All,

I set up my new Pana E50 last night using the excellent advice from Jem (Thanks).

    My set up is

Sky+ tv out scart to E50 decoder scart
E50 Tv out scart to RGB input on my TV

My Tv is the Hitachi 42pd300 plasma

I set the E50 to RGB input and out put.

    The problem

I used the copy mode on the sky+ box to archive a programme on to DVD-r (Sony). I watched the programme start and the E50 start recoding but then went out, so I switched the TV off with the remote.

Everything else (Sky + and E50) stayed on with all the same lights rotating or flashing.

When I watch the recording the picture and sound are excellent until the point where I switched the Tv off, which is when the picture disapears but the sound still records onto the DVD.
Does this mean that the TV has to be on for me to record to disk? Obviously this is not great.

Any help appreciated before I put more money into Sony's pockets.

    Thanks

    Josh

you must have set the E50 to record the wrong channel

It should have been set to AV2 not AV1

AV1 simply shows what is on the TV. So when it was turned off it recorded nowt

It did record the sound and picture while the TV was on. But when the tv was turned off it only recorded the sound?

Can you confirm if you were recording from AV1 or AV2?

The reason I'm asking is that recording sound and no picture can be a sympton of the E50 expecting an RGB input and not getting one.

If you are sure that you recorded from AV2 you need to check a few things.

    1. Your Sky+ box is set to output RGB.

    2. You definitely have the TV out from the Sky+ box going to AV2 on the E50

    3. Your scart leads are fully wired

    4. Make sure all scart leads are fully pushed in.

    Okay just done some testing.

    Test
    Checked and confirmed that

    1. Sky+ tv out is connected to AV2 on the E 50
    2. AV1 on E 50 is connected to AV2 on the plasma
    3. Sky + is set to RGB
    4. E50 is set to RGB on both Av1 and Av2 + Normal connection

    Pressed record onto RAm disk.
Recorded 10 seconds of Cbeebies (Arrgghhh)
using the Sky+ remote pressed the TV button then the power button.
Sky+ stays on, TV goes off, E50 continues to record
Press power button on Sky+ remote (In TV mode) TV comes on.
NB the screen is black but I can hear the programme sound. There is a icon that says AV2 on screen.

Press the blue Sky button and the picture reappears.

Stop recording and then play back.

    Results
Programme picture and sound on the disk for the first 10 seconds.
Picture then disappears but sound has recorded.

Help. I can see my will to live loading its gun.

    Done it:clap:

By trial and error decided not to use the sky+ remote to turn the tv off. By using the TV remote or the hard switch the black screen does not appear during recordings.

    Thanks for all your help.

You beat me to it. Apparently switching off the TV with the Sky remote puts the digibox into composite video and not RGB - therefore as suggested your E50 is not receiving an RGB picture, hence the sound but no picture.

In fact any operation of your TV with the Sky remote will put your Sky output into composite video - beware!
