Now, I dont mean Phil Spector or Whams Xmas album, got a progressive family.

Anyway I dug out Jeff Buckley -Grace.....thats definitely in (another superbp Andy Wallace mix ).

Next......Sugar-Copper blue...........thats in as well. Love that album.

2 left to go.............mmm Neil Young.........Rust never sleeps.

They dont like RATM type stuff, but like something listenable, melodic, without been frantic.....but I like to give them slightly unusual stuff......not Coldplay or Travis etc.

Anyone else got thoughts along this line.

According to one site, she has been in the studio and is hopefully releasing a new album 'next year'. Apprently the success of the first one whilst she was still in her teens (and still a student?!?) was a bit too much and she's had some time away.

I still think 'Sitting Down Here' is one of the best quality pop songs of the last 5 years.

Thanks for the comments, one fly in the ointment is that I have actually got to own the albums before I record them, daft of me to assume you would know my entire record collection.

Goldfrapp, got that, might be worth a go I had thought of mercury rev as well. Trouble is I dont consider them sufficiently unusual, in other words they might buy those themselves.

Dont have any Tonic or Heather Nova stuff,or any Lene Marlin (infact Ive never heard of her), something else Ive got to listen to now.

Anyone else got the Grace album by Jeff Buckley, if you havent you really should have.

It's sometimes worth trying your local library. The one near me has a really surprising wide range of CDs and they hire them out at 80p for 2 nights.

Not that I'd suggest you record them of course, but it'd give you a good idea if they're worth buying or not, ahem

I can never just hire, thats the problem, but I can get snippets off the net, enough to know at any rate.

    I have it. I love it :)

You gotta try Tonic. They wrote the theme song for the movie "Gossip". All 3 of their CDs is superb :) Heather Nova - superb :) Lene Marlin - if Juboy can't convince you about her, then I can't - she's fantastic :D

Had a listen to tonic.......sugar and lemon parade snippets sound good, remind me of someone but cant remember who. Probably end up buying one of these albums.

Heather Novas stuff is pretty good, not sure Id buy anything, but could be an excuse to get something for my wife.

Have you got Copper Blue by Sugar

Its by Bob Mould of Husker du fame, it was his swan song to a/his failed relationship and is very melodic in a Husker du way. Finely crafted, bittersweet pop songs, you have to wonder why this didnt catapult him to more mainstream stardom all though it did spawn the top 30 hit single "if I cant change your mind" in 1992.

No idea who Bob Mould is, but he's growing on me :D (geddit?) :D

Sounds okay but hard to make it out with the crappy samples on Amazon. Will have to download some.

BTW, Heather Nova's best album is Siren.

I can't choose between the Tonic albums as to which is best, but their last one (Head on Straight) has been in the CD changer ever since I bought it.

Its so sad, that your humour should fall to these levels :p ;)

The sample tracks for Sugar are all pretty poor, cos they use a lot of heavily distorted guitar, like Jesus and Mary Chain and Black Reb Motorcycle Club, so it tends to come out very mushy and unclear. You do need a decent system to listen to it.

Im going to get one of the Tonic albums for definite. I had thought Sugar or the Lemon one.......but Im easily persuaded (see my Sum41 collection).:)

Stick any 2 Tonic CDs in one parcel and it'll cost you £17 and a few pence for the two including P&P.

    http://www.absound.ca/

Just have to wait a bit for it to ship but save yourself a bit ;)

Can't go wrong with any of them, but obviously all 3 are must buys :)

Could always then order the 3rd one (whatever that might be) from Play.com to keep you going til the other two arrive :D

hmmmm, this is beginning to resemble the DD thread. If I ordered them now, they are probably on back order as most of the Forum members have got in first.
