Does anyone know if it is possible to "download" tracks from a Sony MD (MZ-N710) which are in ATRAC format, onto my PC, and into .WAV for recording onto CD.....

I have tried to "check-in" the tracks - as according to the Sony soundstage software - but it keeps saying transfer failed. The tracks on the MD were recorded a couple of years ago, through the analogue line in.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

You can't do that with the current crop of NetMD units, for which downloading is a one-way process (PC->MD). Your only option is to record your tracks in real-time to WAV or whatever on your PC using an analogue lead.

The next generation of MD (Hi-MD) will allow two-way uploading/downloading. These are due around July this year...

That's annoying as the software bundled with the MD has the option to "check-in" (i.e. load back into the PC) as well as "check-out".

What software would I need to record into WAV format?

About the best I can suggest is audiograbber. It's not so good at separating tracks, but it can be done if you want. It just uses analogue, although I guess it could be set to a digital input, although I don't think you can record digitally from MD to another source anyway.

Plug your player into your computer's line in and work from there.

You can (transfer digitally), but you need a deck with a digital output such as the Sony MDS-JB980.
