    Greetings all!

I'm hoping someone can recommend a good player.

I would like it to be 1080p upconverting, have HDMI, a USB port, and have the capability to play DVD-+Rs(RWs) as well as DivX/Xvid files (at least through the USB port) and other video formats WMV, MPEG-4, etc.

I would also like for it to have a DTS decoder.

    Any recommendations?!?

    Thanks,
    Ken

The Philips dvp5990 seems to do most of what you're after. The player passes DTS via it's bitstream output but doesn't decode in the player.

Presumably you mean upscaling (changing one resolution to a higher one e.g. 576p to 1080p).

Upconversion is changing an analog input for output on HDMI. AV amps and DVD recorders have this feature, players usually don't (as they don't generally have video inputs).

    To'may'to/to'mah'to...

I was simply referring to the marketing on about 80% of the DVD players I've seen...while there are a few that now say "upscaling", a disproportionate amount still say "upconverting" - point being, everyone here still knew what I was referring to...

That being said, does anyone have any input/feedback on the Philips DVP5992/37? It appears to be able to do DivX and Xvid (at least from what I read in another review), as well as everything else I was looking for.

    Thanks,
    Ken

Why do you feel you want (need) an upscaling player (just for interest)?
