Hi all, I hope you may be able to help me, I built a new pc yesterday around a new Asus A8N-SLI board and have spent the last few hours trying to install a new Creative X-fi (xtreme music edition) soundcard. Every time i try to install the software the pc crashes at 25% of the way through loading. When it re-boots I get asked to insert the Creative disc that came with it.

I do this and am asked to insert disc containing D:\Win2K_XP\i386.

I have tried both the install disc and the latest drivers

can anyone please offer any advice on where "D:\Win2K_XP\i386" is please ?

    :lease:

newstuart, I'm guessing that it's the Windows installation cd?

What version of Windows are you running? I've just installed an X-Fi Fatal1ty and it worked flawless with Windows XP Professional with SP2 as OS.

Try using the windows cd when it asks for that D:\Win2K_XP\i386, might work. Then again, it shouldn't crash to begin with, something obviously is buggering the installation... could be anything really though :(

I actually have almost the same motherboard as well, by the way... A8N-E

Is your version of XP OEM or Retail?
The i386 directory which the system is refering you to are the installtion files for XP.

If you insert the Microsoft XP installed disk into the CD drive (i presume that your CD drive is drive D?) then go to My Computer > right click and do a search for the i386 directory - make a note of it.
take out the xp install disk and run the creative setup and when it asks for the the D:\Win2K_XP\i386 insert the XP install disk and browse to the location you just found previous - you may need to keep swapings disks but that should work.
