i'm in the very same position......

the biggg bugbear is lipsync !!

my local dealer tells me that the HK suffers, not sure about the philips.
the denons have some bad press...

i was told that the dv88+ is adjustable - several ms settings, but we're talking 3x the price

i would like pal prog on my lovely shiny pj but not if my r2 discs are going to look like they've been dubbed in a foreign lang !!

    any help would be good......

I have the DVD 25 and it's a decent player - even though there's an issue with my Sanyo Z1 projector (horizontal flickering artefact). However, the 963 deinterlacing should be on a totally different level. I have not seen one personally, but today I'd definitely get the Philips. Unfortunately that model seems the have atleast it's share of firmware problems.

    What about Skyworth 1050D ? it's under 350EUR from Hivizone.com?

Has Faroudja DCDI and a VGA output.
Also no problems have been reported with this new model they have and do I have to even mention that it's region/macrovision free out-of-box. :smoke:

And the other one is the Limit from Richer Sounds.

I think its 150 pounds now and provides a really excellent picture.

Only problem is there are alot of duff ones, but if you get a good one then you get a very good picture

Yes it will, and will do so out-of-the-box as in "no mods needed".
Also as far as I know it will do it good too, no NTSC conversions or so.

I will get my player tomorrow, will tell how things are then or so :)

The Philips DVD player supports PAL Progressive by converting PAL signals to NTSC then deinterlacing them. The HK actually deinterlaces the PAL signal. Not sure if this matters, but it's worth noting.

    Dimmi,
... and then converting NTSC to PAL? I do not get it. Are you sure?

Even if it is the case (which I doubt), the Philips works. It looks good it terms of "progressiveness", even in comparison with 3x the price machines.

    Haris Mav,
If the HK is better I do not know - never tried it. I cannot recall side by side comparison comments on this forum, most people would compare Philips with 2x or 3x the price Denons and Arcams or 1/2x or 1/3x the price Toshibas and Pioneers - which says to me that, in average, Philips justifies its price...

But please post your comments if you to compare the two.

This is only true when the hack for Pal progressive output has not been applied. Once it has been done there is an option to output Pal discs as Pal progressive.

    Thanks Kwangomango, that makes sense.
And a_b you are right. A comparison between 963sa and DVD25
will be very convenient because they belong in the same price
    group.
