    help philips 9986 picure problems

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    hi there,

i have just bought a pioneer 575 dvd player and i have hooked it up using the supplied adapters and a component cable from the dvd to the the dvi socket on the tv.
the only problem is that the picture looks ok from a distance but when u get closer u can actually see interfearence in the form of what can only be descibed as lime green blotches/smearing.

there are also numerous white lines running across the very top of the screen.

the tv is version 2.1 and everything seems connected ok.

    can anyone help please?

Something not right there Chris. Lets get some more info.

When you select the DVI input on the TV and the DVD player is running do you get the 576p info at the top left?
Are your component leads connected OK? Red/Red. Green/White. Blue/Yellow.
Is the DVD player outputting Pal Progressive? (May be switched to NTSC)
Does the player work OK through the Scart?

    That'll do for starters....

    Jimmy.

having looked more closley it seems to be green and red wavy lines, they are not always there just on some scenes.

the picture through rgb is fine it only happens when i hook it up through component and use pro scan on my dvd player.

yes, it says 576p, the dvd is et to auto, i have selected componebt/progressive on the dvd player, the dvi socket is set to dvd.
it works fine on rgb scart.
    its just a component/dvi problem

All I can suggest is that either the TV is faulty in some way or the DVD players Progressive output is faulty. It sounds like you've hooked it up right. I take it you've tried different DVD's.

Try the DVD player forum bit and see if anyone there can help. Try a friends PS DVD player? Ummm.....Give it a kick? (the DVD player!...or the dog. That might help.)

i tried finding nemo and u could see bright green bits on the orange fish at the start, i then put training day on and u could see light green in the clouds and on other scenes u can see light green/red wavy lines.
i have gone into the dvd setting and buy changing the hue alters this but doesn't seem to get rid of it.

its not the dvd player because i have another player with has pro scan (but i lost the remote for it), i was perminantly set with pro scan on and that had lots a interfearence on the jvc logo screen.

it doesn't matter whether i use pp2 or pro scan it still there.

i don't want to have to return the tv but its not right.

So you're saying you have two Progressive Players and they both do the same?

That narrows it down a bit. Either the TV or the connections. Did you get yours from Empire Direct? If you did, they'll send someone to you to repair or replace it.

    Bummer though.

yes, bought it from emire direct on thursday, the warehouse is only 1 mile from my house.

it just seems that the problem lies with pro scan, i have ixos component leads and they worked perfectly on the tosh crt.

rgb picure is excellent but i bought this tv to use its best pictues/features.

i was gonna but a denon 1910 today and connect dvi to dvi, i'm now wondering if that would have been ok.

just wasted 110.00 on a dvd player now.

Something is wrong, Chris. It sounds like the TV. Get it exchanged or repaired. Don't settle until everything is right. If you want the Denon, send back the Pioneer. I would keep it though, until the TV is sorted.

Give Empire a call and tell them the whole story. They'llswap it out for you.

    Just replied on another thread..

No Chris, Empire told me that if anything goes wrong with the set they'll come and replace it. Just call them and tell them that you want it replaced. Don't let anyone take it away for repair! Swap it for a new one. You are not obliged to keep it. If it's to go to Philips for repair you may never see it again!

Be pleasant, but be tough. There are a couple of guys on another thread who are still waiting for a firware upgrade 7 weeks after their TV's were taken away. The retailer will blame Philips for the delay, which may be the case, but this is of no concern to you - it's the retailers responsibility.

GET A NEW ONE BEFORE LETTING YOUR CURRENT ONE GO!

    Whew...

i phoned empire direct on monday moring and explained the situation.
they were very understanding and and an engineer is coming to have a look on wednesday.
they have said that a n exchange will not be a problem

i love the tv and the pq is excellent, however i'm very dissapointed and lost a little confidence in the product.

i'm actually mulling over whether or not to get a diffrent tv.

to say he was an enginner would be kind to him.
he obviousley knew nothing about lcd/plasma tv's.
anyway he saw the problem and reported it back to empire direct as being faulty.
they offered me a refund or exchange.

i was all set for an exchange but i've had a setback.
the washer has totally gone and i need a replacement straight away but can't afford the extra money.

anyway with the 1985.00 i spent on the philips i have exchanged it for.

    toshiba 32wl48p lcd
    Panasonic DVDS97EBS (hdmi)
    vogals 2001 wall bracket
    hot point washer
    ixos scart lead
and i still had 25.00 left!

i will miss the philips but i feel that i have done a decent excahge.
