    Hi all,

I have just noticed my DVD has locked its self to region 1 when I try and change it to 2 (it says 1 chance left) its saying I need to be an administrator (XP i am admin)

So my question is.. how can I get the player back to region 2??

A hack / crack would be useful as well.. the drive is a Mediatech mt1316b

    Cheers

    Hi Taz,

Although this won't actually flash the firmware on your dvd rom drive, there are a couple of things you can try that will allow your dvd rom drive to play back titles from all regions on a region locked unit.

DVD Region Free - trial available, otherwise $40 to buy.

or there is a similar utility called DVD Region Killer. I believe the latest version is 2.7. Do a search with google or similar to locate download sites.

Hope this helps to solve the problem....
    Tony

It's telling you you have 1 more change of code out of the original 5 which are forced on users by the industry's protection-racket known as the "DVD Forum" .. so you can use your last change to set to 2 where it'll stay unless you hack it.

On XP it requires you to be logged-on as Administrator so that there's less chance of, say, a family member using up the precious 5-changes-only without the 'owner' knowing.

Here's a link for DVD Region Killer , though it's 2.5 not 2.7 as noted above. This is an older program which though free doesn't always work with current drives, DVD Region Free (above) and AnyDVD are paid-for programs which defeat region protection and a lot more besides.

Ah, didn't realise .. in that case I'm bemused.

The link I gave you for AnyDVD and that Tony gave for DVD Region Free are both working for me .. if you can't get there then I suspect a proxy problem with your ISP.

Try this link to Digtal-Digest for mirrors of DVD Region Free, the "official site" is the one Tony's link points to but this page also has some mirrors listed.

Digital-Digest is a great site for DVD/DivX info, software etc.

If you still can't get anywhere I'll see if I can get them up to my domain and PM you a link.

    Great.

DVD Region Free and AnyDVD are very similar .. I'm pretty sure there's a common code base somewhere .. so in case one doesn't work the other may.
