To all the techies out there:

I have an old JVC stereo amp that has become my project to fix. The sound output is distorting and I am wondering what the problem could be. I am not really a technical sort of chap although I have access to advice and tools.

Thanks in advance

Which model is it? I may be able to get you a scan of the circuit.

Sounds like blown output transistors or IC, depending on the model.

Is distortion present all the time, on all inputs and does it get worse or better as the volume level changes?

I had the same problem with an amp it turned out to be a problem with the preamp section.

The amp is a JVC AX-330, i'll have to check about each input but i'm pretty sure it distorts on the two inputs i have on there at the minute.

There is a slight worsening I think when the volume increases but it is distorting all of the time so i couldn't tell you how worse it is.
