right. everything on my housemates ps3 is working... apart from the dvd drive. when i put in a dvd the screen goes black and comes up with 'no signal'. the ps3 then freezes and have to turn it off from the back (hard reset wont work). this is also a replacement ps3 and is doing the same as the old one. i cant for the life of me see whats wrong. as i say blu rays and games work perfectly.

if its any help ps3 connected to tv via HDMI. also connected to a denon sound bar. please help :lease:

I would take a look at the DVD upscaling options with the BD/DVD menu...They've probably selected 'full scale' or 'double scale' and the TV can't cope with whats being sent?

It sounds like the ps3 is not freezing, but like mickus says it's scaling to something that the t.v cannot display and then becuase you can't see the menu you're not able to turn it off.

Again, it sounds like the tv you are using cannot cope with the upscaling that the dvd drive is trying to do.

Have you tried turing the dvd upscaling off (in the settings menu)

What TVs are you trying it with and how are they being connected?
What Resolution settings are ticked in the menu options
Have you tried turning on the PS3 by holding down the power button from standby until it beeps. This resets the AV outputs and rechecks the capabilities of what is connected

Edit: The bold bit above would be the first thing to try with any display problems
