Hello,

I am just trying to get to grips with Sonicstage.

I am trying to put some music on my hd5. I have the music in a file as WMA format. When i select it in SS to transfer, it says that:

Cannot find the music files for the transfer.

The files are definately there. I can play the music through SS but it wont transfer them. ( i though it should change them to ATRAC 3 )

Pleeeease helllpppp im gooiiinggg mmmaaaaaaaaaadddddddd :lease:

as of yet, the HD5 doesnt support WMA...it might within the next 6months, as sonys new players are supposed to support wma, they might add it to the HD5 too
but for now, gotta convert em to play em on ur hd5

Apologies for the crappy thread at te beginning but i posted it late at night after spending hours trying to sort out my Sonic Stage prob.

Ill be a bit more coherent and detailed now. ( thanks for the answer SSzidiq)

When i first installed ss and transferred music to the HD5 i am very sure that it converted the music that was in WMA format into ATRAC. I dont remember getting a message at all that read

'cannot find the music files for the transfer'

I am sure i listened to music on my HD5 that i have in WMA format in my G drive.

SS plays the WMA music fine, but for the transfer it bought up the message.

Also, has anyone uninstalled SS. I tried to uninstall it but it left lots of info and files in my programme files folder on my hard drive in my laptop.
Also, on looking in some of these files, SS had filled a folder called OPTIMIZED with music files causing my HD to be virtually full.

Can anyone hepl with these issues as i dont understand why it would essentially copy music i already have in another drive into my programme files folder.

What does the OPTIMIZED bit mean/do.

Many Thanks
Greg

Is it worth deleting all my music from my library and reloading it.

Is the optimization thing where it converts any WMA to ATRAC?

:lease: :lease:

I am concerned that i may have to rerip all my WMA music into MP3, which is gonn be a serios job as i may not have some of the older cd's

Many Many Thanks

Greg

Haven't used WMA files personally, but as you guessed the optimized folder is where the files that have been converted by SS are stored. Essentially you end up with two copies of the file in different formats.

If you check out :-

It will give you some more info on what to do with the files in the optimized folder, under the section dealing with DRM.

i deleted all the files out of the optimized folder as it took up so much room on my D hard drive.

Maybe that is where it looked for the music as opposed to the G drive where i rip my music too. Perhaps i need to delete all my music out of my library, then reimport it and it may re-optimize thos files again.

It is really becoming quite frustrating.

Has any one else encountered this problem?

You could always set the default folder for storing your SS music files to another hard drive/partition with more room (if you have one).
The default directory will be listed in the options submenus somewhere, I'm not at a machine with SS on at the mo', so I can't point to it exactly.

If WMA files are not supported natively on the HDx as suggested above then you will need to re-convert your WMA files again I'm afraid.
