I currently have a Denon 3801 amp which is fine but I feel the time is right to upgrade to bigger and better things.

I am toying with a different type of setup due to the split of music/movies using the amp we currently have.

I have read here and there about the ability to use two amps - one to power the front three speakers and one to power the rears or possibly one two channel amp with an add on processor. I want to get the best sound from movies without losing the sound quality for normal 2 channel stereo when playing audio cds.
Source with be an Arcam DV88.

I have a budget of approx £2000 to spend on a setup to accompany the arcam. Opinions anyone please ?

Apologies for a noddy question....... ;)

How about a processor and matching 5 channel amp from Rotel or Cyrus, dumping the 3801 altogether? Or get a good stereo amp like Arcam FMJ or Roksan Caspian for fronts and use 3801 for centre/rears?

Think I prefer the sound of the 2nd setup - hopefully I would get a much better stereo sound using the FMJ. Music can sound a little unexciting with the Denon.......

If you don't I'll eat my hat. :D Don't be shy to try lots of different amps as the Denon vs Arcam sounds are different, so at first the FMJ might not appeal. Also try it with your own source and speakers at home -any good dealer will allow you a few to home trial.
