    hi all,

would you be kind enough to help in my choice of a new telly.

I have very basic needs moving from a 28" bog std telly.

I will simply be watching normal sky & dvd's on the new one

ive researched the forums and searched the net for prices and narrowed it down to these few??

    Philips - 42plf5522d @ £580.00

    Samsung - Le40M87B @ £700.00

    Panny TH-42PX70 @ £770.00

    Samsung PS42Q97 @ £620.00

Ive seen loads of good and bad about all the above sets, but being new to all this im unsure if lcd or plasma is the way to go and dont want to fall into the 'biggest set for cheapest price' line of thought....

as ive said my viewing needs are pretty basic, just dont want to buy a lemon telly for my 1st big purchase....

    all advice greatly rcvd

    thanks

    Glenn

Sorry to hijack your thread Glen but i'm in a similar position myself!!
I have a budget of £900 to play, main uses will be for standard sky digi, normal dvd viewing & occasional use of the ps2.
I have been tempted by the Panny that you've mentioned myself as it generally gets good reviews.
    Thanks,Ian

Glenn, I would focus on these two

    Panny TH-42PX70 @ £770.00 (733 from pixmania I read earlier)

    Samsung PS42Q97 @ £620.00

Agreed, after 3 weeks of reading these forums and looking at magazines, these 2 come out top in your range. The Panasonic always slightly better, but costing more.
Probably best to view them both and decide, they are normally both in most Comet and Curry's stores for viewing.

    Hi,

Im looking at getting a new TV as well & have my heart set on the Samsung PS42Q97.

Just wondering where you found it that cheap? Cheapest I have found it for is around £680 delivered.

From what I have seen & heard about these TV's I really think they are the best buy:thumbsup:

I found the Panny to be just as good but it's just to much more monies for not a lot else IMHO.

    Cheers, Doug.

Not sure where the £620 is from, but cheapest I can see is £646 delivered.

I find this site quite useful for prices and comparing models:
    http://www.zettavolt.co.uk/HDTV/All.html

Also agree with you on the Panasonic, I keep viewing both the Samsung and Panasonic side by side and still can't justify paying the extra. Maybe i'll change my mind sometime though....

    Cheers mate,

Going to order it tonight i think so hunting round now for the cheapest place. Cheaper I get it for the more cables and extra's I can get:thumbsup:

Gonna have a look round those sites now:smashin:

As to the Panny vs Sammy, I really cannot (in the shops) see enough of a difference between the two to justify me spending at least an extra £100 (I need the pedestal) for a TV that has LESS HDMI sockets and (to my eye) the same PQ...

I also love the way the Samsungs look:D

    Cheers again, Doug.

    I almost ordered as well!

Just ordered from 247 electrical for £678.98 with Quidco 3% back ontop so should be around £660...

Don't think I could get it any cheaper, well I couldn't see anywhere that could.

Should be delivered before I start my new job so I get a few days to set it up and test drive the beast:D:D

Will post my experinces if that is any help Glen:thumbsup:

    Cheers again, Doug.

I THINK that the models PS42Q96 & PS42Q97 are EXACTLY the same tech wise but one has a white strip on it somewhere and the other one does not.

I belive that pc world, dixons, currys and comet have some deal or something with Samsung so they are able to supply the Q96 model.

I belive that you can get the Q97 for cheaper than the Q96 but I'm not actully to sure...

If anyone knows any different could they please post as I would like to know as well.

    Cheers, GMD.
